Get to know me

Mikaela Lindqvist

I am a registered nurse and a cognitive short-term therapist. I am also a NACS-authorised sexual counsellor and a Chinese medicine therapist. I am currently in the fourth year of training to become a psychotherapist, using methods from cognitive behavioural therapy. I offer training therapy in connection with those studies. I have 20 years of experience as a nurse in mental health and substance abuse care and on an internal medicine ward, and I have also worked in project roles and as a team leader. I still work as a nursing teacher as well.

I work in Finnish, Swedish and English, at the practice in Tarmola, Porvoo, or online. Do get in touch, and together we will find a way of working that suits you.

Why I do this work

Over twenty years as a nurse I noticed that in the rush it is often the most important thing that goes unheard. Alongside care, people need time to stop. That is why I went into therapy training: I wanted work where I have time to listen all the way to the end.

How I work

I want to create a relaxed and open atmosphere in my practice, where it feels good and safe to be. We work at your pace and towards your goals.

A little about me

Nature matters to me. Walking in the forest and out on the bogs is how I unwind, and the camera often comes along. Photography has been a joy of mine for a long time, and the pictures on this site are my own, apart from the ones I am in.

There is room for laughter here too. Humour and joy travel with me in my work, also when we talk about difficult things. A lighter moment in the middle of something heavy does not make it less serious; more often it makes it easier to work through.

Come as you are

Many people feel nervous before the first session. That is why I say these things out loud in advance.

  • You do not need to be able to explain why you are coming.
  • You do not need to know in advance what you want to talk about.
  • You may cry, stay silent, or change the subject.
  • No topic is too small or too sensitive. I will not be shocked and I will not judge.
